Lays and fabricates metal structural parts, such as plates, bulkheads, and frames and braces them in position within hull of ship for welding. Lays out position of parts on metal, working form blueprints or templates and using scribe and handballs. Locates and marks reference lines, such as center, buttock, and frame lines. The individual assigned to the position must, with or without reasonable accommodation, be able to perform the following essential function:
Comprehend blueprints, sketches, and templates. Enter and move through manholes to reach and work in internally confined spaces.
Manipulate and operate all machines and hand/power tools essential to the performance of the position of Shipfitter. Traverse gangways and scaffolding at varying heights. Ascend and work at heights. Stooping, squatting, twisting. pulling and pushing.
