The position is located within the Housekeeping Service Department at the Phoenix Indian Medical Center (PIMC). PIMC is a 127-bed medical facility with an active outpatient department, ancillary supportive, administrative and field health components. The incumbent serves as work leader and also performs non-leader work requiring knowledge and application of specialized cleaning procedures within the medical center grounds.

- Performs specialized cleaning procedures in such areas as, interim and terminal isolation room upon discharge of patient, Intensive Care Unit, Central Supply and the Emergency Room area.
- Scrubs, strips, applies floor finish, polishes floors, dusts, washes wall, windows, cleans items in a scheduled designed area, vacuums, shampoos, rugs and carpets using heavy industrial type cleaning equipment.
- Operates heavy industrial type equipment such as, scrubbing and high speed burnishers, high and low speed buffers, battery operated scrubber, carpet scrubber with extractor, high pressure sprayer, mercury vacuum, industrial vacuum.
- Collects and transports soiled linen to designated storage area or pick up point.

This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Moderately heavy physical effort is used occasionally in moving, setting up, and working from ladders and scaffolds. Frequently, they must left and move objects weighing about 18 kilograms (40 pounds), and occasionally objects weighing over 23 kilograms (50 pounds).
WORKING CONDITIONS: Usually work indoors, in areas which normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilation. They are exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping floors, etc. Care is required to avoid serious injuries when working on ladders and scaffolds and when using heavy powered equipment.

Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
