D494 Engineers are responsible for the detailed design and analysis of forward end internal submarine structures. Responsibilities include structural engineering analysis of equipment foundations, platform decks, modular structures, joiner-work and stowage. Analysis for shock loadings (static and dynamic), ship motion, submergence, fatigue and tank pressurization loads are performed using state-of-the-art computer models as well as conventional classical calculation methods. Additionally, Engineers will interface with Designers, representatives from various disciplines and the Navy in a Design/Build team environment. Engineers will also participate in Navy design reviews.
- A Bachelor of Science degree (or higher) in Civil (Structural) or Mechanical Engineering or related technical degree.
- 0-2 years of related engineering experience.
- A Master Degree in these areas is desirable.
The candidate must possess strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. Candidate must be highly motivated, perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations in an engineering environment. Demonstrated skills and proficiency in the technical area of structural engineering is required and knowledge of finite element analysis, steel design techniques and advanced mechanics of materials is highly desirable.
