Title: Streaming Media Engineer Location: New York, Georgia, Colorado, Remote USA

Primary Purpose of the Position:

The Streaming Media Engineer is responsible for the support of live and on-demand streams for the GlobalMeet Webcast platform. This support can come in the form of an engineer dedicated to an event, a consultant on streaming requirements, or live stream troubleshooting. They are responsible for the maintenance, scale and reliability of the streaming environment. They will be tasked with researching, testing and deploying new streaming technologies as they become available. They will also help cover shift rotations and provide 24X7 on call support as needed.

Duties, Responsibilities, and Physical and Mental Demands:

  • Troubleshooting -- Identifies, diagnoses, and resolves live and on-demand streaming problems

  • Client encoding support – Works with clients to ensure they send streams to the GlobalMeet Webcast platform using the correct specifications and to ensure that their network is optimized for stream delivery

  • ECDN client support – Works with clients to test and deploy ECDN solutions that we support within the Globalmeet Webcast platform

  • New Technology Research and Testing -- Evaluates and tests emerging streaming technologies to meet company needs

  • Engineering Support - Provides 24X7 support within team rotation

Education and Experience Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in related field (or 3 years of additional experience in lieu of degree)

  • 2 years of relevant experience

  • Experience with streaming protocols (RTMP, HDS, HLS, DASH)

  • Knowledge of encoding protocols (AAC, H.264, H.265)

  • An understanding of end-to-end video delivery on various clients


  • 3+ years of relevant experience

  • Experience with CDN providers (Akamai, Limelight, Fastly, AWS, CloudFront)

  • Experience with Wowza Media Server

  • Experience with Ubuntu / FreeBSD

Skills and Competencies:

  • Extensive knowledge of media streaming protocols, codecs, and transports/container formats: HTTP Live Streaming (HLS), RTMP, RTSP, etc; MPEG-2, H.264/AVC, AAC, AC3, MP4, MPEG-2 TS, etc

  • Deep understanding of HTML5 based video playback technologies

  • Experience with encoding software (FFMPEG, Wirecast)

  • Working knowledge of VOIP technology and SIP protocol

  • Familiarity with CDN architectures (caches, origin servers, proxies, etc)

  • Excellent debugging and troubleshooting skills using network analysis tools such as WireShark

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Problem resolution skills

  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills

  • Ability to work well under pressure, multi-task and meet deadlines

  • Ability to work well both independently and in a team environment

  • Ability and flexibility to perform all other job-related and ad-hoc duties as required

Highly Desirable:

  • Experience with ECDN Technologies (Hive, Ramp, Kollective)

  • Experience with Load Balancing Technologies (HAProxy, F5 BigIP)

  • Experience with AWS EC2 and S3

  • Experience with Java applications

  • Working knowledge of Varnish (VCL)

Additional Skills of Benefit:

  • Project Management

  • Broad scripting experience (Bash, Python)

  • Familiarity with code versioning tools
