Culinary Services (CS), a division of Auxiliary Services, provides meals for over 12,000 customers a day becoming an integral part of campus life and the overall college experience. CS proudly provides Montana State University students with not only a repertoire of various cuisines, cooking styles, and flavors, but a comfortable atmosphere to meet friends, study, and simply relax. The division is comprised of 2 residential dining halls, 9 retail operations, Brick Breeden Fieldhouse and Bobcat Stadium Concessions, Fork in the Road food truck, MSU Catering, Indulge In-House Bakery & Salads, and the Farm to Campus Program.

The dining halls serve over 10,000 meals per day and are open 7 days a week from 7am – Midnight providing breakfast, lunch, dinner, and Late Night Bites. Specialty dinners are served multiple times a month highlighting Montana Made, holidays and other special events, and student/parent recipes.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of a Cook III, the Cook II actively works in the production of fresh meals for customers.

Skillfully works in display cooking areas

Positively and professionally interacts with customers

Ensures quality product is being served

Assists with directing and training staff

Assists with monitoring inventory, and keeping records

Assists with the cleaning, disposition and storage of foods, supplies, and equipment

Properly handles food in accordance with FDA food codes

Cleans areas and equipment in accordance with the sanitarian’s recommendations

Performs other general kitchen duties

And actively contributes to the team by performing other duties as needed in support of the department’s mission.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

Experience cooking in a high volume restaurant and/or cooking multiple cuisines or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

Experience leading and/or training staff.

Experience providing excellent customer service.

Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

Experience organizing and timing kitchen production.

Experience with inventory control.

Position Special Requirements/Additional Information

This is a permanent, full-time position. If you are a student of MSU and seek a student worker position, please go to:

10 month positions. Shifts vary across departments, 7 days per week during the academic year. All positions are eligible for full benefits 12 months of the year.

May work evenings, weekends, long hours, consecutive days during busy periods, and occasional holidays as the school and event schedule demands.

May occasionally work outside and in inclement weather assisting with special events.

Serve Safe certified or have the ability to become certified.

Physical Demands

Normal kitchen, cooler, freezer, dock environments.

Stationary and/or moving about for long periods of time.

Gripping handles on small kitchen utensils and other equipment.

Performing repetitive motions related to job duties.
