Position Summary

Responsible for all operational facets and strategic leadership of the financial shared services organization, which includes accounts receivable, credit, cash, and accounts payable. Position interfaces with senior level department leaders to maximize working capital and drive efficiencies for Baker and Taylor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (The following statements describe the general nature of work being performed in this job. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties. Additional responsibilities may be assigned by management):

§ Oversee the credit decision making for a large, diverse customer base operating both domestically and internationally. Key objectives include 1) minimizing bad debt write-offs through effective use of proactive scoring, analysis, and credit intelligence–2) establishment & enforcement of credit limits; and 3) Effective use of risk mitigation techniques and instruments.

§ Manage $1B annual Accounts Receivable portfolio to maximize collections, receivable turns as measured by high currency rates and lower DSO. Address root cause of disputes, deductions, and errors that limit productivity.

§ Manage the daily functions of the Accounts Payable department (i.e. processing of vendor invoices, vendor returns, enforcement of purchasing terms, and issuance of checks). Total purchases of over $800 billion.

§ Direct short and long-term strategies for each department that are consistent with corporate goals, including focus on creating a more paperless environment through the use of web based and EDI type solutions.

§ Leverage technology and process improvements to drive cost efficiencies beyond industry standards.

§ Interact with outside departments (Purchasing, Distribution, Sales, Legal, Finance, Human Resources, Treasury, etc.) to resolve issues and improve processes.

§ Interact with suppliers and customers to resolve issues and automate/improve information flow.

§ Forecast and manage cash flow.

§ Budgeting.

Manages approximately 6 direct reports who are responsible for 80 associates in the Accounts Payable and Credit & Collection departments. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Extensive external contacts at a management level with customers, vendors and with other internal departments. Develop and maintain Internal relationships on all levels primarily with Buying, Operations and Senior Management.
Requirements:
§

§ Bachelor's degree and minimum fifteen years of Credit and Shared Services experience.

§ Accounting/Finance Payable experience preferred.

§ Prior large team (50+) management experience required.

§ Experience with workflow enhancement tools (ie. GETPAID/Cforia) and Web portals (Billtrust) is highly desirable.

§ Prior systems implementations experience and/or process reengineering experience required.

§ Progressive and strong understanding of domestic and international credit and collection practices is a must.

§ Strong PC skills required.

§ Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, suppliers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community and effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

§ Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

§ Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
