Reporting to the Manager of Database Engineering, the Senior Oracle Database Administrator will contribute to the overall engineering, design, build and support of all existing and new database systems. As a member of the team, the successful candidate will need to work closely with our internal clients to develop consensus and find solutions to problems facing their business constituents.
The ideal candidate will also play a significant role in both operational support and engineering the next generation infrastructure architecture for the database environment. The DBA will work with all of the Engineering teams to assist in the implementation, management, development and monitoring of the databases that support the company's initiatives. The candidate will also provide support and training to associates in troubleshooting issues.
Responsible for architecting and implementing database solutions that provide availability, scalability, performance, recoverability, and security.
Work to ensure that the associated hardware resources allocated to the databases and to ensure high resilience and performance tuning.
Proactively monitor the database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime.
Responsible for providing metrics, trend analysis, and recommendations to management team to enable them to make informed decisions regarding resource management.
Responsible for troubleshooting and problem-solving SQL development issues.
Responsible for fully understanding entire Benefitfocus platform including storage, compute, database, network, application servers, and application.
Responsible for implementation and release of database changes according to agreed timelines and costs.
Responsible for developing, implementing, and following standard operational procedures to provide standardization and stability to the environment and processes.
Participate in resolution and Root Cause Analysis of any outages or other SLA impacting issues
Routine operational maintenance including installations, upgrades, patching, monitoring, auditing, issue resolution.
Responsible for operating a 24x7 SAAS environment. Some on-call / off-hours support will be required.
Experience & Skills:
7+ years Oracle Server Database Administration experience required.
5+ years with Oracle RAC required.
Strong knowledge and understanding of programming/scripting solutions such as Python required .
Expert level diagnostic, troubleshooting, and performance tuning skills are required.
Strong understanding of storage systems, compute platforms, and software development is required.
Experience managing other database platforms including MySQL, SQL Server, or Mongo preferred.
Experience managing multiple 12c or 11g installations.
Strong knowledge of Storage Area Networking (Performance Tuning, identifying hotspots, Cloning and Snapshots)
Practical experience in monitoring and tuning databases to provide a high availability service.
Experience with architecting, writing, and debugging SQL and PL/SQL.
Practical experience in managing internal and external database security
Strong knowledge of Disaster Recovery and Multi-Instance implementations and methodologies
Demonstrated ability to manage and deliver projects
Demonstrated ability to support and tune large transaction databases
Demonstrated ability to quickly and independently learn new technologies to support DBA role (applications, operating systems, storage)

This position will be located in Charleston or Greenville, SC and may be available for occasional remote work. Candidates will need to demonstrate exceptional communication, project management and collaboration skills.
A BA/BS degree is required. Emphasis in Computer Science strongly preferred.
