The Logistics Specialist Intern is responsible for managing logistics activities in a manner that shall meet business fulfillment requirements in parallel with the goal of transportation cost reduction. The position is responsible for collecting and communicating all necessary information related to upcoming and ongoing shipments, projects and services as well as providing logistics support, consulting, and obtaining best possible transportation rates.
​ Responsibilities:
Route cargo in accordance with legal and customer requirements including:

Cargo characteristics
Transport mode
Equipment type
Service level
Least cost
Transit time
Loading and offloading requirements
Coordinate the routing process including:
Using contract rates and least cost whenever possible
Obtaining spot quotes for lanes or loads that aren’t contracted
Selecting carrier and tendering cargo in accordance with the process
Providing carrier, shipper, broker, consignee all pertinent docs and information as required

Issue resolution and shipment responsibility
Training of new employees and of clients if needed
Research and subject matter expertise in the field of logistics and transportation
Actively use either Allyn’s software or use the software chosen per the client.
Accurately issue shipping documentation such as certificates of origin, customs invoices, packing lists, and certificates of insurance
Reliably track and expedite progress of specialized shipments
Capture all costs associated with a shipment including:
Freight cost
Detention charges
Storage charges if applicable
Other charges

Actively look for an capture savings opportunities and added value opportunities when possible
Actively participate in team meetings, conference calls, and daily project management calls with Allyn team and with the client
Department of Transportation (DOT) and other transport regulations compliance management, including permitting, Over Dimensional (OD) and Hazmat.
Eliminate or minimize risk exposure for Allyn and customers
Maintain online tracking and metrics tools
Track and resolve freight claims

Provide excellent customer service to Allyn customers
Bilingual preferred
