Summary of Responsibilities
Responsible for registering patients, monitoring referrals, collecting co-pays and scheduling appointments.
List of Responsibilities/Duties
â¢ Registers patients by gathering, verifying and entering in demographic and insurance information.
â¢ Obtains signed registration sheets, permissions to file claims, releases, etc.
â¢ Reviews schedules for referrals needed, obtains those that the office takes responsibility for and works with patients to obtain others.
â¢ Collects co-payments and personal payments.
â¢ Prepares day sheet and balances cash drawer each day.
â¢ Handles inquiries about insurances accepted, office hours, services, locations, exam fees, doctor information, etc.
â¢ Verifies upcoming appointments.
â¢ Handles telephone receptionist responsibilities as needed.
â¢ Maintains personal reference book on insurance companies and coverages.
â¢ Assists other patient service staff as needed.
â¢ Greets patients promptly and professionally.
â¢ Properly triages patients and visitors.
â¢ Responds easily to routine requests for information.
â¢ Maintains patient confidentiality at all times and communicates with the Compliance Officer regarding procedural changes and concerns.
â¢ Participates in professional development efforts to remain current on insurance coverages and regulation matters.
â¢ Cooperates and communicates with all staff members and physicians about patient matters.
â¢ Issues proper receipts and maintains balanced drawer.
â¢ Verifying insurance.
â¢ Answering telephones and operating various office machines.
Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of the management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing.
Minimum Education Requirements
â¢ High school diploma or GED.
â¢ Alphabetization and spelling skills a must.
Minimum Background Requirements
â¢ Three years of work experience, some of which is preferably in a medical office setting.
Minimum Demonstrated Skills
â¢ Position requires accuracy, thoroughness, and an understanding of insurance, copy and referral procedures.
â¢ Work is fast paced and multi-tasked.
â¢ Requires ability to work as a team member.
â¢ Skill in operating computer, word processing software, fax machines and copier machines.
â¢ Must be able to stand, reach, bend and squat repeatedly during the day.
â¢ Must be able to communicate via the telephone.
â¢ Must be able to view and type computer data.
â¢ Must have manual dexterity to file
