Product Development Engineer

The Position :Product Development Engineer sought to identify and commercialize new technologies in the field of motion and stabilization of the spine. This person will be selected for their demonstrated skill and creativity in designing implants and instruments and managing resources. The individual will work closely with small teams of engineers from varied backgrounds, in addition to other staff including representatives from clinical and regulatory affairs, marketing and quality assurance. Outside contacts will include surgeon advisors and suppliers. This person is expected to be a motivated individual who thrives in a team environment.Primary Responsibilities: Work directly with surgeons and surgical staff in an operating room environmentSolve surgical problems by applying engineering solutions through mechanical hardwareCreate 3-D CAD models and fully detail engineering drawings autonomouslyCorrectly apply Geometric tolerancing and dimensioning to engineering drawingsWork with suppliers to ensure products are cost effectively designed for manufacturabilityCarry out verification / validation testing to ensure product designs are safe and effectiveWork with surgeons, marketing staff, and technical sales forceDrive projects internally with planning, receiving/inspection, and distributionUnderstand/document project goals. Create budgets & timelines by project.Responsible for and review intellectual property for product line responsibility.Write mechanical test protocols, test reports, and ensure product designs are safe & effective.Understand/document project goals. Responsible for budgets & timelines by project.Practical experience w/metallic & non-metallic materials; full understanding of material properties.Design history file creation & maintenance.General Responsibilities: Technical lead for assigned projects.Drive projects internally with quality, manufacturing, planning, receiving/inspection, and distribution services.Must be proficient in 3-D modeling, detailing/drafting, manufacturing, QC control/gage design.Job requirements: Experience/Education: Minimum: Bachelors’ degree in mechanical or biomedical engineering. Master of Engineering preferred.Minimum 6 years mechanical design or 4 years orthopedic mechanical designMust be proficient with 3-D modeling, detailing/drafting, manufacturingExtensive exposure to a machine shop environment. Must understand how product is machined, cast, forged, or formed.Work experience in a regulated industry required; experience with medical devices desired.Specific Skills: Self-starter, detail oriented and able to work autonomously.Extensive knowledge of CAD systems, preferably Solid-Works or Pro Engineer.Knowledge of Microsoft applications- proficiency in Excel, Project, and PowerPoint required.Proficient with writing and preparing technical reports.Proficient in oral presentations required.Must be able to work on various projects as priorities change or directives are adjusted.Working Conditions: Must be cognizant of quality systems regulations and adhere to design control procedures.Environment fosters a collaborative approach to problem solving and creative design.Start-Up Company working to continue rapid growth.
