Under the supervision of the Equipment Manager, the Assistant Mechanic assists in a comprehensive preventive maintenance program. The duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the repair of failing equipment, performing routine service and lubrication of equipment, properly communicating any needs or problems relating to the maintenance or repair of equipment to the Equipment Manager. The Assistant Mechanic places safety as a top priority and is responsible for maintaining a clean and organized service area, checking out/in handheld tools and equipment, and will be familiar with all aspects of equipment operation and maintenance.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
â¢Under the supervision and direction of the Equipment Manager and/or the Head Mechanic, inspects, and repairs mechanical defects/failures in various grounds maintenance equipment including diesel, electric, and gasoline powered utility vehicles, mowers, trucks, trenchers, tractors, and all other mechanical equipment used by staff performing the maintenance work.
â¢Assists in the instruction and training of the maintenance workers regarding preventive maintenance, and the proper cleaning of and safe operation of equipment.
â¢Assists the Equipment Manager and Head Mechanic in the continuation of a preventive maintenance program within budget on all equipment.
â¢After instruction and with supervision, backlaps and sets HOC on all reel mowing equipment as instructed.
â¢Sharpens, balances, and replaces rotary mower blades.
â¢Checks out/checks in 2-cycle equipment and helps maintain inventory control.
â¢Helps complete shop area maintenance.
â¢Performs basic golf course/landscape maintenance practices when needed.
â¢Washes and returns all equipment to the designated location at the maintenance facility; and cleans the maintenance areas.
â¢Performs other duties as directed by Equipment Manager or Head Mechanic.
â¢Good communication skills
â¢Working knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and equipment.
â¢Ability to work outdoors for long periods of time in various weather conditions.
â¢Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
â¢Ability to stand on feet for extended period of time.
â¢Available for 24-hour re-call in emergency situations.
â¢Working knowledge of light and heavy maintenance equipment and automotive apparatuses.
â¢Skilled in the use of a variety of equipment repair tools and in various types of mechanical repairs.
â¢Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the profession.
â¢Ability to move heavy objects.
â¢Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions while repairing equipment.
â¢Ability to diagnose mechanical troubles and determine appropriate maintenance work.
â¢Ability to communicate effectively.
â¢Knowledge of and/or the ability to play the game of golf and understand how job performance affects the playing conditions of the golf course.
â¢Possession of a valid drivers' license
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely required to stand; walk; lift; bend over; and use hands. The employee is required to sit and reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus as well as the ability to multi-task and complete tasks in an accurate and timely manner.
