Job Summary


City & Metropolitan Planning ( CMP ) at the University of Utah is part of the College of Architecture + Planning whose mission is summed up in four words: Responsibility, Resilience, Respect, and Response. We are a tight-knit academic community of top-tier faculty, dedicated staff, and remarkable students. The Department's BA/BS undergraduate degree in Urban Ecology focuses on exploring the interrelationships among social, environmental and economic systems. The Urban Ecology degree is also taught at the Utah Asia Campus in Songdo, South Korea. The Master of City and Metropolitan Planning is an accredited professional planning degree with an emphasis on ecological resilience, smart growth, and social justice. The Ph.D. in Metropolitan Planning, Policy and Design produces research-focused scholars, teachers, and leaders. The department also offers a Master of Real Estate Development (with School of Business) and four dual degrees and two graduate certificates. Responsibilities


The essential functions of the position include:




  1. Handles the administrative matters of day-to-day operations and procedures, meetings and events of the department.




  2. Assists with the development of department budgets.




  3. Maintains, executes and monitors accounts, budgets and expenditures of the department and its associated research centers, to ensure accurate account coding for financial transactions, and oversees the maintenance of departmental records.




  4. Processes and implements human resource management tasks of departmental faculty, staff, and students.




  5. Handles payroll for the department and its associated research centers.




  6. Facilitate and process performance reviews of departmental faculty, staff, and students by the department chair and research center directors.




  7. Collect, organize, and analyze data for specialized reports (i.e. accreditation), financial statements and records on department and program status and progress for management and outside agencies.




  8. Assists graduate students with academic and financial aid concerns and interfaces with the Graduate School.




  9. Provides administrative support to the department's graduate program coordinators (maintain records, monitor student progress, and graduation).




  10. Provides support for the graduate recruitment and admissions processes, including corresponding with applicants, organizing applicant data, and submitting admission referrals.




  11. Advises and disseminates information to staff, students and others regarding program policies, program information, goals and related technical issues.




  12. Work with College Development staff to maintain alumni records.



  13. Coordinates scheduling for program courses and program needs, and manages the coordination of curriculum and catalog updates as directed by the department chair.


13 Assists in the creation and distribution of program materials, forms, and general correspondence.

Minimum Qualifications


Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field, or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). Three years experience that includes specific involvement in maintaining complex financial records, developing and monitoring departmental budgets and preparing related reports; and demonstrated organizational, human relation and effective communication skills.
