Job Summary


The Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute develops and shares economic, demographic and public policy data and research that help people in the community make INFORMED DECISIONS™. The Institute serves as leaders on the Utah economy, specializing in regional economics, public finance, and economic development. To help fulfill its mission, the institute seeks an motivated, collaborative researcher with a passion for providing objective and rigorous analysis to join our team.


The Gardner Institute Economic and Public Policy Research Associate will support a research portfolio that encompasses a variety of topics in regional economics, economic development, and public finance.


Minimum requirement of bachelor's degree in economics, public policy, or a related field.


Quantitative and qualitative research experience, including performing in-depth inquiries into a wide variety of significant issues; determining data sources and appropriate research methods, evaluating the relevance of findings and synthesizing information; applying relevant statistical methods; and identifying omissions, assumptions, or inadequate data in the analytical work of others.


Excellent communication skills – the ability to effectively communicate, both in writing and orally, sophisticated technical material and highly complex issues to both specialists and non-specialists.


Ability to engage in multiple projects at once under the pressure of tight time frames and rigid deadlines.


Highly collaborative and self-motivated.


Responsibilities


Makes recommendations for the design of research projects


Identifies and collects appropriate data and information


Ensures security of confidential data


Analyzes, summarizes, and/or reviews data and other information using appropriate quantitative and qualitative research methods


Communicates methods and findings through presentations, reports, and other publications


Other tasks as assigned


Minimum Qualifications


Preferences


Proficiency in a statistical software package such as R, SPSS , STATA , or SAS


Proficiency in an economic impact model system such as IMPLAN , RIMS II, or REMI


Proficiency in a data visualization software package such as ARCGIS or Tableau


Experience with state and local legislative and executive processes
