The primary responsibility of the Mechanic is to service and maintain equipment such as tractor and trailer units, tri-axle dump trucks and also, maintain off road equipment such as skid steer loader.
Responsibilities
Order and maintain inventories
Diagnose problems on tri-axle dump trucks and maintain off-road equipment such as skid steer loader
Maintain appropriate record keeping
Coordinate and schedule services including but not limited to:
Change / adjust brakes
Change / mount tires
Grease the CMVs
Replace / repair lights
Check / change wheel bearings
Change springs
Clutch adjustment / replacement
Understand / repair air brake system
Understand / repair steering components
General clean-up and maintenance duties
Read and understand oil sample results to troubleshoot problems
Perform maintenance duties in the shop, yard, field and roadside on service calls
Maintain the fleet to meet Savage and DOT standards
Perform minor cleaning to the equipment and facilities keeping them in a safe conditionQualifications
The Mechanic must be familiar with computers and have an understanding of maintenance systems, truck, engine and transmission diagnostics software a plus
Must be familiar with record-keeping as it pertains to maintenance of DOT regulations and comply with all safety standards & company policies
Must have a sufficient amount of personal tools to effectively maintain equipment
Welding steel and aluminum; using a cutting torch and plasma a plus
Must understand and have experience working with air brakes and hydraulics
Must have a good working knowledge of diesel engines , diagnosing, repair and maintenance of the systems
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol test and physical examination
Be self-motivated, hard worker, and maintain a good attendance record
in some cases, be able to run mobile equipment and operate a tractor/trailer
Education/Experience
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Physical Requirements
Ability to climb a ladder and use a safety harness
Ability to climb into and out of cab multiple times a shift
Ability to lift 50lbs. or more daily
Ability to drive in all weather conditions
Must be able to climb, crawl, carry and position body in such a way that will enable you to perform your required duties
