Job Title: LAWD DirectorNon-profit Overview: The Latino Academy of Workforce Development (LAWD) is a part of the Vera Court Neighborhood Center, Inc. (Vera Court Inc.) non-profit agency which also includes the Vera Court Neighborhood Center and Bridge Lake Point Waunona Neighborhood Center. More about the Vera Court Inc. agency’s programming and services can be found at www.veracourt.org/agency.LAWD began as a small program at Vera Court Neighborhood Center in 2010 in order to best serve the education and workforce needs of our community’s Latino adults. Since then, the program has grown into an organization with a $400K budget and 14 staff and instructors reaching hundreds of Latinos each year across all of south central Wisconsin. LAWD’s programming aims to provide Latinos with the credentials, training, and case management necessary to obtain fulfilling, family-sustaining careers.Position Overview: The Director position is new to LAWD. They will report to the Vera Court Inc. agency Executive Director and work closely with the Board of Directors and LAWD Steering Committee. The Director will supervise LAWD’s full- and part-time staff.This position is responsible for three key aspects of LAWD:Growth –The Director will evaluate potential opportunities for growth that are in alignment with LAWD’s Strategic Plan. Additionally, the Director will work with Vera Court Inc. Board members, LAWD Steering Committee members, the Vera Court Inc. accountant, and the Executive Director to develop a strategic plan that will result in more LAWD autonomy, including day-to-day decision making. With their guidance, the Director will provide recommendations and a timetable for a more independent organization within or separate of the Vera Court Inc. Agency.Community - The Director must act as a leader and advocate not only for LAWD staff and students, but the local Latino community overall. It is essential to build long-term relationships with students and strengthen partnerships with employers, educational institutions, and other Latino organizations.High Quality Programming and Services - The Director will ensure the effectiveness of all aspects of LAWD programming including the administration, supervision of staff, and budgeting.Detailed Position Responsibilities: Supervise LAWD’s full-time and part-time staffSet goals for programs, map out a timeline, and track progressIdentify unmet needs in the Latino community that relate to LAWD’s Strategic Plan and create and pilot projects to address this gapEnsure financial stability and sustainability of LAWD’s programmingComplete grant and expense reports for the City, United Way of Dane County, County, State, and Federal contractsPartner with Vera Court Inc. fundraising team to identify new grant opportunities and assist with grant writingDevelop recruitment and marketing strategies for new studentsLead LAWD’s community and fundraising special eventsMeet regularly with program partners and represent LAWD at eventsCoordinate monthly Steering Committee meetingsManage administrative duties including payroll and data entryQualifications and Skills: Written and verbal proficiency in Spanish and English5 years of relevant experience working with the community, adult education, workforce development, and/or diverse populationsBachelor’s Degree in related fieldExperience working and/or volunteering with nonprofits at a leadership level preferredExperience supervising staff and/or volunteers preferredCalculated risk-taker with an eye for taking the initiative to innovatively grow programs and servicesPrevious success implementing, managing, and evaluating a program including creating a budget, building partnerships, and meeting deadlinesPassion for the mission and values of the LAWD organization and Vera Court Inc. agency including an understanding of cultural competenceHours: This is a full time position including some evenings and weekends.Salary: $45,000 to $55,000 with benefitsApplication Deadline: Monday,September 17, 2018Please send cover letter and resume to Hope Jones.
