The Project Engineer assists the Assistant Project Manager or Project Manager and Project Superintendent in project planning, buyout, project management and close-out for one or more assigned projects. The Project Engineer actively gathers information on the status of his/her projects and keeps the Assistant Project Manager or Project Manager informed of issues that could affect schedule and budget. This position also assists in maintaining a focus on safety throughout project duration. The Project Engineer typically reports to the Project Manager or other assigned Manager.
â¢ A high school degree is required. Industry related college degree is preferred.
â¢ Construction experience is preferred, but not required. One to two years in a fast paced business environment would be helpful.
CREDENTIALS AND/OR SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
â¢ Communication, project management, judgment, initiative, time management, knowledge of Microsoft Office products, project organization, attention to detail, flexibility, and problem solving are necessary skills for this position.
DUTIES OF THE POSITION:
â¢ Proceed with work only to the extent of an executed contract and executed change orders.
â¢ Review and enforce all prime contract terms and obligations.
â¢ Observe work in progress during field visits, question any procedures or end-products that don't appear appropriate and discuss with the Project Superintendent (PS) for resolution.
â¢ Assist with problem resolution with subs, vendors, architects and owners.
â¢ Assist with the implementation of project plan updates.
â¢ Review weekly construction progress to ensure the project plan is followed and schedule is maintained. Initiate recommendations to keep project on schedule.
â¢ Monitor, verify and expedite material and equipment deliveries, shipping commitments. Advise Project Manager of anticipated late deliveries or issues that could affect the project schedule.
â¢ Negotiate assigned contract changes, subcontracts and purchase orders within delegated authority.
â¢ Negotiate issues and execute subcontract and vendor change orders within delegated authority. Follow up to expedite pricing response.
â¢ Ensure sub/PO amendments and change orders are issued.
â¢ Respond effectively to RFI's and coordinate response in the field. Verify impact and pricing, if required.
â¢ Track and resolve subcontractor and materials supplier requests for change. Ensure the appropriate subcontract amendments are issued on a timely basis.
â¢ Assist with the project schedule updates, as requested.
â¢ Review submittals for accuracy and compliance with plans and specs. Coordinate from separate trades and check all dimensions at interfaces between trades.
â¢ Ensure that shop drawing and submittal review and approval process is effective and efficient.
â¢ Draft accurate subcontracts/PO Exhibit A for review with subs.
â¢ Ensure subcontract amendments and change orders are issued.
â¢ Ensure that owner status reports are completed on a timely basis as required.
â¢ Maintain and update accurate buyout, closeout, submittal, change order, RFI and insurance logs. Distribute on the requested schedule.
â¢ Post RFI responses on drawings.
â¢ Assemble subcontract/PO agreement and distribute document to subs, vendors and the project team. Follow-up to assure the document is executed.
â¢ Distribute proposed contract changes for approvals. Follow up to assure document is executed.
â¢ Assemble approved change orders and distribute to appropriate parties. Maintain accurate subcontract change order materials and information in Prolog. Distribute for pricing. Follow up on delinquent subs and pricing.
â¢ Complete Exhibit B, C, D and F subcontract templates and route for internal approvals.
â¢ Ensure all contract documents are properly posted with all changes and clarifications. Maintain record set.
â¢ Ensure project closeout is completed promptly and accurately by the project team utilizing ECC.
â¢ Work with the Project Superintendent to prepare as-built drawings from field record set and the project record documents.
â¢ Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
â¢ Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction.
â¢ Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
â¢ Performing this job requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk and hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
â¢ While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works on-site at the construction work site where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and outside weather conditions.
â¢ The noise in these work environments maybe moderate to very loud.
