Position Description


Job Title: Intervention Teacher for Math


Location: Assigned School


Job Group: Educator


Pay Level:Exempt


Reports to: Principal


Summary: Responsible for providing targeted-intervention programs in math that will help learners reach grade level expectations by both push-in and pull-out strategies. Consults with classroom teachers, as appropriate, and provides direct instruction to students. Maintains effective relationships with students, parents/guardians, staff, and community members to enhance learning opportunities.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.


1.Develops lesson plans and instructional materials for developmentally appropriate learning experiences.


2.Adapts the curriculum to the needs of each pupil and provides individualized and small group instruction.


3.Collects and maintains data to assess and monitor student progress from targeted intervention.


4.Stays current in research-based, inclusive math instructional strategies and incorporates into practice.


5.Communicates with EST Coordinator, classroom teachers, and special educators to provide layered supports for students.


6.Establishes and maintains a positive learning environment based on explicit group norms and strong routines for collaboration.



  1. Consults with District Math Coordinator in order to incorporate district/state guidelines for math curriculum and instruction.


8.Demonstrates a commitment to lifelong learning in the areas of antiracism and inclusion with a visible commitment to equity.


9.Performs other related duties as assigned.


General Responsibilities: Oversees the work of enrichment room employees, students, and volunteers. Monitors student discipline through an appropriate classroom management program. Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule. Demonstrated ongoing commitment to workplace diversity, sustainability, and delivering exceptional customer service.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree in education


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Vermont Teaching License with appropriate endorsements Mathematics.


Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret textbooks, periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and/or governmental regulations. Ability to write lesson plans, reports, correspondence, and procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, parents, staff, and the public. Ability to use a variety of assessments for student work.


Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, fundamentals of algebra, and geometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to use a variety of assessments for student work.


Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on school and district objectives and the needs and abilities of assigned students. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skilled in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board policies. Must be able to keep high levels of confidentiality in all aspects of job performance.
