MedStar Georgetown University Hospital#s Emergency Department is staffed and equipped to care for 36,000 patients a year ranging from newborn to end of life. The MGUH ED provides high quality care to a wide variety of patients, including adult and pediatric patients from the MedStar Georgetown Transplant Institute and the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. Additionally, MedStar Georgetown is accredited by the Joint Commission as a Comprehensive Stroke Center and receives acute patients from all around the DC region. All of the nurses in the Emergency Department are certified in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and are NIH Stroke Scale Certified but many also have their CEN, TNCC, and ENPC certifications. Our year-long New Graduate Nurse Residency program provides the mentoring and support you need to transition from student to professional nurse. You#ll attend monthly seminars and learning activities, formulate an individual professional development plan, and complete an evidence-based practice project related to a unit specialty of your choice. Once your three to six-month unit-based orientation is complete, you#ll begin a minimum two-year, full-time commitment with your unit at MedStar Georgetown. Requirements Previous experience such as tech/CNA, practicum placement, or externships in the Emergency Department required; standard clinical rotations do not qualify. The New Graduate Nurse Residency, beginning February 2021, is intended for Fall/Winter 2020 graduates of accredited BSN programs. Spring/Summer 2020 BSN graduates will also be considered. This selective program is open only to candidates with a GPA of 3.2 or higher, so please list your GPA in your resume or cover letter. Admission Process Interested? Submit your online application. Qualifications: EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING REQUIRED: Graduation from an accredited Baccalaureate School of Nursing. LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATION: 1) must be waiting for results of NCLEX exam (first sitting) already taken; OR 2) must have set a NCLEX exam date (first sitting) within 2 months of GUH hire/start date OR 3) must have successfully completed the NCLEX and is awaiting DC Nursing Licensure. No Graduate Nurse Technician can be in this classification if they have already failed boards, or if they do not set a NCLEX exam date within two months after hire/start.# BLS required. EXPERIENCE: Previous experience as a nursing assistant or nurse tech desired.# Satisfactory references from the school of nursing attended.
