The MSU Denver Ethnography Lab is seeking to hire student research assistants to aid in ongoing research projects and course support in cultural and linguistic anthropology. Current research projects include the Ch'orti' (Mayan) language revitalization and community development project; research on organic farming and agritourism in Okinawa, Japan; Asian Studies initiatives; and initiatives related to university community and academic partnerships. Student employees will receive training and/or guidance, such as ethical research conduct, research design and implementation, phonetic and content analysis software, research reporting, descriptive linguistics, and/or particular languages as needed.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Teaching assistance and tutoring for lower-division cultural and linguistic anthropology courses
- Research assistance, including writing literature reviews, transcription, linguistic analysis, translation, data cleaning, data analysis, database management, and web design
- Participation in community outreach
- Assistance with lab functions and faculty support
Required Qualifications
- Must be an MSU Denver student, enrolled in at least 6 credit hours
- Completed 2020-2021 FAFSA or DAIA
- Majoring in Anthropology, Linguistics, or a related field
- Ability to work at least 12 hours per week
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Comfortable with virtual conferencing software (MS Teams, Zoom)
- Comfortable with the MS Office suite
- Self-motivated, able to work independently in a remote environment
- Detail-oriented and organized
- Dependable and willing to work as part of a collaborative team environment
- Work-study eligible and/or interested in unpaid for-credit internship
Preferred Qualifications
- Spanish and/or Japanese language ability or exposure
- Experience with data organization and/or database management
- Web design experience
- Graduating in Fall 2021 or later
