Nutrition Education Specialist - Overland Park
Catholic Charities supports low income children and their families in almost every program and office across the agency. Rent, utility and household food and income supports are offered along with other strengthening programs to help families move to self-sufficiency. Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas has 8 brick and mortar food pantries and a resource bus that takes food and delivers services in 14 additional locations. Low-income families in rural communities are faced with barriers and financial costs that severely limit access to nutritious food. Barriers include food deserts - distance to food, cost and availability of transportation, and financial cost of nutritious food. As a result, the availability of nutrition education programs is limited and outweighed by the need for programs designed to change behaviors that affect rates of heart disease, hypertension, stroke, diabetes, and obesity. This program will improve and enhance the current efforts of Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas in providing food and nutrition education to low income families in rural communities. The agency continues to work with our community partners to promote programming and develop programs that meet the needs of each individual community. Recruitment of local volunteers is essential to the work of Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas. Further help on this page can be found by clicking here.
