The Design Manager manages teams of designers and projects concurrently, directing workflow and interacting with the team to develop projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Receive and evaluate incoming design requests; determine resource allocation and scheduling of projects to meet demands.
Communication with sales and other internal support teams to set expectations for deliverables
Prioritize the workload, and interface with internal and external customers
Evaluate project criteria; establish expectations
Route projects through the design process, ensuring functional, aesthetic, manufacturing and assembly aspects of the project meets the needs of the design request
Engage in project development using standard techniques, i.e. Sketching (fluid and fast), Drafting (2D/3D), Foam Core model making/mockup skills, Rendering and CAD visualization
Assume the leadership role in project reviews, review and direct functional (engineering, fit, performance) aspects of projects as well as aesthetic aspects of projects (creative, innovative, effective.)
Responsible for project development record keeping for individual projects ( if applicable), as well as ensuring the departmental records are properly maintained
Provide technical support to sales team and explains concepts, as needed
Source external resources (freelance, etc.)
Acquire departmental supplies and equipment.
Present abstract ideas and concepts, both informally as well as in formal client presentations
Direct design team(s) to meet goals and growth objectives; motivate design team members to perform their jobs at the highest level possible
Other duties as assigned
This job has direct supervisory responsibilities for design group at a given location.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelors Degree in Industrial Design, Package Design or Fine Arts Degree with 10+ years experience in POP display design or 15+ years of related experience in another industry or a Master's Degree with 5 years POP display design experience
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. May require the ability to write routine reports and correspondence. May require the ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
To perform this job successfully, strong verbal, written and visual communication and creative problem-solving skills are required. Computer proficiency in Artios CAD, Cape systems, Adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop, experience with Kongsberg XL series Table, a product lifecycle management application, preferably Agile, and global packaging experience is also required
This position requires strong leadership skills and a thorough knowledge of packaging processes, materials, printing and converting methods and their associated costs related to different materials used in displays, I.E. paper, paperboard, corrugated fiberboard, plastics, metals, wood. Knowledge of processes such as vacuum forms, thermoforms, injection molding, clam shells, blister packs, shrink banding & wrapping, carded display packaging, RF sealing and labeling is required, in addition to knowledge of ASTM and IATA pre-shipment protocols. an extensive portfolio that demonstrates creative "3D" problem solving skills, and the ability to convey concepts with quick sketches. The Design Manager must possess a highly developed sense of aesthetics as well as knowledge of engineering principles, and the ability to guide projects to completion in a deadline driven environment while staying abreast of industry trends such as loss prevention, environmental sustainability and green design. The position requires a comprehensive knowledge of major retailers (Wal-Mart, CVS, Walgreen's, Costco's etc.) specifications and the ability to interface with different creative services agencies for display artwork development The Design Manager must have the ability to provide clear direction under pressure and the ability to develop and guide a creative team in a highly competitive business environment.
