The purpose of the position is to support the cultural resources program on Camp Guernsey.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level

  • Conduct visual field assessments of landscapes during surveys, checking for evidence of prehistoric or early historic cultural activities

  • Perform library and archival research, preparing detailed maps of archeological sites and artifact distributions

  • Analyzing and classifying artifact assemblages to interpret their composition, age, type, and cultural system represented

  • Generate charts, maps, andgraphs for publication

  • Erect flagging, stakes, or other barriers around cultural resources prior to military training maneuvers

  • Monitor ground-disturbing activities and military training maneuvers for impacts on cultural sites

  • Required to assist with completing Wyoming Cultural Resources Property Forms and writing cultural resources report sections



Preference will be given to applicants with a Bachelors's degree in Archeology or related field from an accredited college or university and have completed an archeological field school.

Preference will be given to applicants with experience as an archeologist on a military training facilities.

Preference will be given to the candidate with experience in GPS, GIS, and Office software.

Necessary Special Requirements


  • Requires strenuous physical activity, including periods of standing, walking, climbing, lifting, and carrying heavy objects.

  • Some activities will occur in physically dangerous areas or settings.

  • Documentary research and report writing are expected, which entails concentrating and writing for long periods of time.

  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather.

  • Assignments may be performed in potentially hazardous areas, including steep slopes, rocky terrain, and firelines.

  • Incumbent must be able to hike while carrying equipment (e.g., backpacks of 50 pounds).
