Bed Management Representatives are responsible for assigning of appropriate beds to all incoming patients within an acceptable time frame. The Assignments are based on gender, level of care, infectious status and admitting physician.


  1. Monitors the pending transfer logs for EC, OR, and unit to unit for patients needing bed assignments.

  2. Assign direct admissions and calls patients in with an expected arrival time.

  3. Prioritizes bed needs when census is high to maintain patient flow.

  4. Work closely with Nurse Mangers, Access Nurses and Physicians to maintain patient flow and safety.

  5. Receives all rehab transfer calls from Rehab Coordinator or designee.

  6. Adds new HAR, prints and tubes new chart to rehab.

  7. Receives all Psych transfer calls from Psychiatric Social Worker or designee. Adds New HAR, prints and tubes new chart to rehab.

  8. Receives all Hospice admissions calls from admitting Hospice. Creates HAR, prints and tubes new chart to Hospice.

  9. Receives all call from Rehab, Psych or Hospice if patient has a change of status and needs a higher level of care bed. Creates HAR, prints and tubes new chart to new floor.

  10. Receives all Organ Procurement requests, determines transfer to OR vs discharge/Readmit. Adds New HAR and completes discharge of current visit, and admission of New HAR. Prints and tubes new chart to floor.

  11. Prepares daily Bed Reports (9am, 3:30pm, 9pm).

  12. Determines Critical Bed Status and updates hotline twice a day. (7am, 4pm), Activates Service Alert when appropriate.

  13. Manages and prioritizes private room requests.

  14. Attends daily bed op meeting on weekends and when delegated.

  15. Initiates disaster or computer downtime procedures as necessary.

  16. Receives phone calls from various areas of the hospital for assistance.
