Virginia Institute of Autism (VIA) is looking for a Director of Development and Communications.
The Director of Development and Communications works collaboratively with donors, families, volunteers and community partners, VIA staff and the Philanthropy Committee to plan and implement a comprehensive development program, direct communications activities in support of development and institutional goals and participate in VIA's administrative team.
Specific responsibilities include:
Â• Assessing, evaluating and modifying development programs and systems to ensure long-term sustainability and facilitate organizational growth
Â• Establishing and maintaining development policies and procedures
Â• Defining fundraising goals, opportunities and priorities
Â• Identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding individual gift prospects, private foundations and corporations for restricted and unrestricted support, with an emphasis on major gifts ($5,000 and above)
Â• Serving as primary staff liaison to the Philanthropy Committee of the board of directors
Â• Planning and executing special fundraising projects including capital campaigns
Â• Planning and executing direct mail appeals
Â• Planning and executing special events, including the annual gala and Run for Autism 5K
Â• Identifying, cultivating, recruiting and working with volunteer fundraising leadership
Â• Staffing PTO meetings four times annually
Â• Overseeing the ongoing development and maintenance of the donor database
Â• Reporting on development activity and progress to the board of directors and other key stakeholders
Â• Planning and executing media relations, including news releases, media events and feature story placements
Â• Coordinating website updates and social media
Â• Writing and producing a semi-annual newsletter
Â• Writing and producing collateral materials in support of development, school, outreach and adult services programs
Â• Coordinating the production of multi-media materials used in support of development activities
Â• Contributing to VIA's strategic and annual plans
Â• Participating in organization program planning, budgeting and management as requested by the executive director
Education and Experience Required:
Â• Bachelor's degree required
Â• 5 years of related experience is preferred
The Director of Development and Communications must be an experienced professional with a successful track record in fundraising and marketing as well as have exceptional writing, editing and proofing. The candidate should have excellent interpersonal skills and outstanding organizational capabilities. He or she should be a team player who enjoys a collaborative environment.
