POSITION SUMMARY:
Plans, develops, coordinates, monitors, and supervises all Christian Education Programs for a Corps including youth programs; recruits volunteers to serve as teachers/leaders for various programs and serves as a resource to assist them in the same; ensures all programs are in compliance with The Salvation Army mission and ensures the safety of program participants; administers the day-to-day office operations to include preparation of statistics and reports, purchasing of supplies, promotion of programs, and administration of department budget.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Works with Head Youth Deacon to coordinate, directs, and promotes all Corps Sunday School and Vacation Bible School classes; prepares and maintains the Youth Roll Book on a regular basis for annual reviews; ensures all Sunday School classes are covered by the appropriate teaching staff; recruits substitutes teachers as needed; orders and distributes Sunday School supplies to teachers ensuring all teachers have materials needed.
Recruits, instructs, and supervises Sunday School Teachers; plans, develops, and monitors curriculum content of classes, giving specific as well as general guidance to each Sunday School teacher; ensures that special lesson plans are made by each Sunday School teacher and that the plans are followed.
Serves as a constant source of fresh ideas for Sunday School teachers in all matters of classroom procedures including units of study, schedules, educational materials, needed resources, and craft ideas; purchases Sunday School materials and distributes the same to teachers.
Maintain awareness of new materials in the area of Christian Education; purchases books or magazines that might be helpful to the development of the Christian Education Curriculum Library.
Works with driver to organize, schedules and coordinates transportation for Sunday School students; drives a Salvation Army vehicle to transport students to and from the Corps.
Ensures the safety and protection of all children participating in youth programs; contacts the appropriate personnel, parents, or emergency services as needed; reports all accidents to the supervisor; contacts parents with any discipline problems occur with children participating in programs.
Consolidates craft and art supply requests from Sunday School teachers; prepares and submits purchase requests for the same.
Plans and coordinates arrangements for youth activities including Girl Guards, Sunbeams, Adventure Corps, Kids Corner, Junior Soldiers, and Corps Cadets; instructs, guides, monitors and supervises all youth leaders; schedules and supervises weekly meetings for each youth group..
Plans and coordinates arrangements for Divisional and Territorial Camps including scheduling of youth physicals; completes all paperwork for camps and organizes transportation.
Plans and coordinates monthly social activities for teens and young adults age groups; plans and conducts weekly devotions on youth night; coordinates meals and purchases supplies for the same.
Give attention to special adult programming as instructed by the Corps Officer.
Organizes and directs The Salvation Army Fredericksburg Corps Gospel Arts Club Program including classes such as beginner piano, hand bells, timbrels, theory, percussion classes, beginner band, youth band, singing company, youth chorus, recorders, and private lessons.
Coordinates and leads the band and praise and worship time on Sunday morning.
Supervises all paid/volunteer staff of music teachers for The Salvation Army Gospel Arts Club Program; develops and coordinates year round curriculum for the Gospel Arts Club Program; Organizes and conducts quarterly Corps music recitals.
Conduct program performance evaluations for the paid/volunteer staff of the Gospel Arts Club Program.
Conduct quarterly planning meetings to review the curriculum, job performance, lesson plans, and to evaluate the students of the Gospel Arts Club.
Maintain a working music library which will enhance the Gospel Arts Club Program.
Organizes and plans special musical events throughout the year that would showcase the results of the various instructional groups. These events would include: fall and spring Corps music Festivals, music Sundays, annual Christmas or Easter musicals and any other special events.
Organizes and directs the Fredericksburg Gospel Arts Club summer session; supervises the paid/volunteer staff and develops the curriculum.
Promotes and encourages Corps soldiers' participation in all Salvation Army musical activities on the Corps, Divisional, and Territorial levels.
Recruits and supervises volunteers assisting with musical programs; develops effective working relationships with same.
Plans, organizes, and leads quarterly teachers meetings; coordinates arrangements for annual teacher training seminars.
Prepares and maintains statistical records on all Corps program activities and attendance; compiles and prepares monthly statistical reports; prepares monthly youth reports and submits same to Divisional Headquarters; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.
Prepares and maintains accurate records, lists, logs, and reports regarding the Christian Education Programs.
Types and distributes correspondence for various groups; develops and mails informational flyers to promote various Corps activities; sends reminders and remembrances to members of Corps programs.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists in preparing the Christian Education budget; monitors expenditures to ensures compliance to budget limitations.
Plan and schedule special meetings and activities of the Youth Reporter; orders supplies as needed.
Records and reports weekly and monthly statistics for the Corps and Community Center; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.
Plans, coordinates, and implements fund-raising functions for various groups
Assists in planning and organizing music for both junior choir and youth chorus; plans, rehearses and promotes children's musicals.
Plans and coordinates an annual Youth Councils and Camp Happy Land trip for the teens and young adults of the Corps; assembles information packets; arranges and provides transportation; supervises staff throughout the trip.
Plans and coordinates the annual Easter Family Picnic; provides activities for this event; coordinates picnic set-up and take down; advertises and promotes the picnic through the distribution of flyers.
Plans, coordinates, and instructs community programs.
Performs other related work as required.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Education or a related field, and
Three years experience developing a leading Christian education programs for The Salvation Army, or
any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Valid State Driver's License
Knowledge of The Salvation Army mission and ministry.
Knowledge of the Bible, doctrine and theology.
Knowledge of principles and practices of christian education, child development and family relations.
