We Use AI To Write Many Things And It Can Be An Invaluable Resource. However, Sometimes It Can Work Against You. For Example, It’s Tempting To Throw Your CV Into AI, Copy And Paste The Result, And Hit Apply. But Here’s The Thing
AI-generated CVs are starting to look like the fast food of job applications.
Fast, easy and cheap, if not free.
Tick.
Memorable, nourishing and reflective of your uniqueness?
Not so much.
At a recent career coaching webinar I attended, a colleague shared something interesting. They’d seen five applications for the same job. All with identical CVs. Not just similar.
Identical.
This is the reality of over-relying on AI. Everyone’s using the same tools and the same keywords. The result?
CVs that blend into one another and don’t make you stand out.
And the point of your CV is to make you stand out, isn’t it?
CVs written by AI has benefits, including the fact that they don’t take long to put together.
But, they’re often pretty bland, everyone’s got access to the same AI models and they do the job of filling a gap. For now.
But they don’t tell your unique story.
They don’t show the reader that you cared enough to invest in yourself. And they definitely don’t stand out in a crowded market where hiring managers are scrolling past dozens (if not hundreds) of applications.
But what’s the alternative, you may ask?
Cook it yourself. With the support of a professional CV writer.
If you take the time to chop your own vegetables, stir your own sauce and add your personal twist (you can never add too much garlic would be mine, for example), you can create a CV that not only looks good, but feels authentic and satisfying, and most importantly, gets you the interview that you want.
It might take longer and require more effort, but think about what’s at stake.
This isn’t just a snack.
It’s the CV that could lead to the interview that leads to the job that changes your life.
It could be the door-opener to a career that puts a roof over your head, food on the table and gives you pride in what you do every day.
So why would you rush it? Why settle for the quick and easy route if the quality isn’t up to scratch?
I’m a big fan of tech and AI can be a fantastic helper. It can suggest phrases, help with formatting and even act as a sounding board. Maybe even be your sous-chef, if that isn’t taking the cooking metaphor too far.
But AI shouldn’t write your CV for you. That’s on you.
The job of a CV isn’t to just help you make the job application. It’s there to help you make your application (and you) stand out.
Its job is to grab attention, spark curiosity and say, “This person is different. This person is worth a conversation.”
And that’s something no algorithm can do for you.
