About the Role/Team:
We are seeking a Head of Communications, Indonesia to support TikTok Shop in one of our most strategically important markets.
This role reports to the Global Lead, E-commerce Communications and serves as the primary communications partner for TikTok Shop’s Operations, Business, and Product teams in Indonesia, as well as cross-functional partners including Legal, Public Policy, Government Relations, Governance & Experience, and Trust & Safety.
This individual will play a critical role in shaping and executing TikTok Shop’s communications strategy in Indonesia, developing strong local narratives, advising business and product teams on market positioning, and helping the company navigate a dynamic external environment. The role requires sound judgment in managing sensitive issues, a strong understanding of Indonesia’s political, regulatory, and business landscape, and the ability to help protect and strengthen TikTok Shop’s reputation in a highly visible market.
The role will also lead efforts to highlight how TikTok Shop creates value for Indonesian sellers, creators, small businesses, and consumers, while communicating our commitment to safety, compliance, and a positive shopping experience.

Responsibilities:
- Strategic Communications Partner: Act as the primary communications lead for TikTok Shop Indonesia leadership, providing counsel on business priorities, product and policy developments, partnership announcements, and market-specific risks and opportunities.
- Issues and Crisis Management: Lead high-stakes media issues management in a complex regulatory environment. Anticipate, assess and respond to fast-moving issues, coordinating closely with Legal, Public Policy, Government Relations, Operations and regional communications teams to shape response strategies and messaging.
- Media Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with top-tier business, political, regulatory, technology and trade media in Indonesia. Proactively secure high-quality coverage, manage inbound inquiries and drive disciplined handling of sensitive or reputationally complex news cycles.
- Regulatory and Policy Communications: Partner closely with Public Policy and Government Relations teams to ensure external messaging is aligned, credible and consistent for journalists, policymakers, industry stakeholders and partners.
- Executive Positioning and Training: Coach and prepare executives and subject-matter experts for media interviews, stakeholder engagements and public appearances, ensuring messages are clear, locally relevant and resilient under scrutiny.
- XFN Stakeholder Management: Serve as the senior communications point of contact for Indonesia-based cross-functional stakeholders, including business, marketing, operations, legal, creator partnerships, governance and experience, and policy teams. Ensure message alignment and strong coordination on market priorities.
- Narrative Development: Shape clear and compelling narratives around TikTok Shop’s role in supporting Indonesia’s digital economy, merchant growth, creator entrepreneurship and consumer experience, while ensuring those narratives are grounded in local market realities.
- Content Oversight: Review and advise on externally facing content in Indonesia, including press materials, partner communications, policy-related messaging, presentations, market education materials and reactive statements for accuracy, consistency and reputational risk.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Affairs, Political Science, Marketing, or a related field.
- Extensive experience in strategic communications, corporate communications, public affairs communications, or media relations, including experience in a leadership capacity.
- Strong understanding of Indonesia’s political, regulatory, business, and media environment, with the ability to navigate complex stakeholder landscapes.
- Demonstrated experience in media issues management, crisis communications, and reputation management, ideally within technology, e-commerce, consumer internet, or other fast-paced industries.
- Experience developing messaging in partnership with Public Policy, Government Relations, and Legal teams, particularly in regulated or high-visibility environments.
- Established media relationships in Indonesia, with excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Bahasa Indonesia.
- Proven ability to build trust and collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams, exercise sound judgment and discretion, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Experience supporting consumer technology, social media, e-commerce, or platform businesses in Indonesia.
- Experience advising on communications related to regulatory developments, public affairs issues, strategic partnerships, or government-related matters.
- Experience leading or mentoring team members and managing external agency partners.
- Strong understanding of Indonesia’s digital economy, creator ecosystem, and e-commerce landscape.
