Component Lead (Irrigation Design)

Job Description

We are looking for an experienced hydraulic/irrigation engineer to join our existing Komering Irrigation Project. This project includes the rehabilitation and extension of an existing irrigation scheme (in Lempuing), and the study and design of potential a new irrigation scheme (in Semendawai), within South Sumatra.

The successful candidate will lead an established team of national and international experts to lead the completion of the feasibility study and detailed engineering design of a potential new irrigation scheme known as the Semendawai irrigation area.

The Component Lead will report to the Team Leader of the project. As the project also includes ongoing construction supervision of major works associated with an irrigation extension project in Lempuing, the Team Leader will delegate the leadership of the Semendawai feasibility study and detailed design to the Component Lead. The Component Lead will be supported by the Project Manager in day-to-day management of the component and related sub-contracts. This is a full-time position based in the city of Palembang, Indonesia.

Specific Tasks Will Include

• To represent the Consultant Team and assume overall responsibility for the Semednawai feasibility study and detailed engineering design;
• To maintain, with support of the Project Manager, the overall work schedule of the Semendawai component;
• To organize and control our Semednawai team, coordinate (with the support of the Project Manager) all the activities of the Team including the mobilization of its members at the required time according to task requirements;
• To guide, direct, manage and report on team inputs and outputs regarding to the Feasibility Study, Detailed Engineer Design, Environmental Impact Assessment and Land Acquisition and Resettlement Action Plan.
• Provide coordination, supervision and quality control of the component outputs, with the support of a Structure Design Engineer, including check/approval of hydraulic and structural design;
• Collect and examine existing reports, drawings and data related to design works
• To review and prepare design criteria
• Oversee the preparation of detailed design of the sub-irrigation area of Semendawai, including preparation of quantity calculation and bill of quantities
• Oversee the preparation of tender documents including tender drawings and technical specifications
• Lead the work on the delivery of the Feasibility Study report for the Semendawai Irrigation Area, and the Detailed Design Report for the Semendawai Irrigation Area
• Provide technical guidance to the team
• To review and finalize all the documents prepared by the Consultant’s engineers/experts;
• To report progress and raise issues to the Team Leader and Project Principal.
  
  

Candidate Specification

Key skills, experience and qualifications:

• University graduate in civil or irrigation engineering
• Significant years of working experience in planning, design, and construction supervision of irrigation, dam or other water resources development projects.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  
  

Additional Preferred Skills And Qualifications

• Indonesian language skills.
• Previous experience working in Indonesia
• Experience in leading sizeable projects funded by international funders.
