UX/ Front-end Engineer

We are looking for a UX/ Frontend Engineer with a combined skillset of front-end development (80%) and UX Design (20%). You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to build intuitive, user-centered interfaces and ensure a seamless interaction experience across products. Your role involves both design thinking and the technical ability to implement those designs. This role will report into the Director of Engineering and will be crucial in shaping the future of climate-tech SaaS products.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

• Front-End Development: Develop, implement, and maintain the React front-end architecture of the Terrascope Platform, ensuring intuitiveness, usability, accessibility, and responsiveness across devices
• Prototyping: Build interactive prototypes for user testing and internal feedback using front-end technologies or prototyping tools
• Usability Testing & Iteration: Participate in and support usability testing efforts, gathering feedback, analyzing results, and iterating on designs to improve the user experience
• Collaborate with Product Managers and Designer: Work closely with our Product Managers and Designer to convert wireframes, mockups, and prototypes into interactive, high-fidelity user interfaces
• Performance Optimization: Ensure that user interfaces are performant, accessible, and scalable, following web standards and best practices
• User-Centered Design: Apply UX principles such as usability, accessibility, and consistency to enhance user experience in all aspects of product design and implementation
• Design Systems: Help in the creation and maintenance of Terrascope design systems, ensuring consistency and scalability across products
• Cross-Team Collaboration: Act as the liaison between design, product and engineering teams, facilitating the smooth integration of design into development
• Documentation: Provide clear documentation for UI components, patterns, and code to support future development efforts
  
  
  

To be successful in this role, you should have:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 3+ years of experience in a similar role (UX Engineer, Front-End Engineer, Interaction Designer)
• Solid front end development experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript and React
• Solid experience building user interfaces in accordance to UX principles such as consistency, accessibility and usability
• Basic understanding of API frameworks, in particular, REST and GraphQL
• Experience with Angular, Vue.js or other javascript frameworks/ library would be a plus
• Familiarity with version control systems such as Git
• Knowledge of accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) and how to implement accessible interfaces
• Familiarity with design systems and prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD
• Strong communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams to translate design vision into functional products
• Experience working in lean teams, developing and learning as we go
• Prior experience in startups and working with remote teams
