TOFU is a handy acronym that stands for Think Of Future U.
Today is the day to do something for your tech community. Future you will be grateful.
Why so grateful?
Future you in one year will appreciate the message you receive from someone saying they loved your helpful blog post from last year.
Future you is relieved to have shared public learning notes several months ago as you remember a key takeaway you need to apply.
Future you will be thankful for easily finding and referencing an article you enjoyed a month ago because you shared it in a Slack channel.
Future you has a warm feeling knowing that a fellow community member landed the job from the job advert you shared a couple of months ago.
Future you reflects that if you hadn’t asked that question about AI guardrails then you wouldn’t have been introduced to the person who helped you land your current job.
Future you about to walk on a conference stage smiles at the lightning talk you gave a couple of years ago at a local meetup, knowing this was the seed of an idea for the talk you’re just about to give.
Future you takes another deep breath as you’re about to guest on your seventh podcast episode, knowing full well this wouldn’t be the case had you have said no to the first one six months ago.
Future you is glad to have attended a webinar on quality engineering principles as an Engineering Manager has just asked for your help to establish some principles in your organisation.
Future you is glad to have shared a rough idea of a model with a couple of community members a few months back and feels good that it’s now taken shape into something you never thought possible.
Future you can’t believe someone would write such kind words about you even though for the last four years you’ve been busy amplifying all the good things other community members have been up to.
Future you reflects: To think of future you is also to think of future us. That’s the TOFU that matters.
