Workshop Supervisor (Full Time)

JOB DESCRIPTION
The workshop supervisor will develop and manage a team of machinists and fabricators a in allocating workload and managing the day-to-day operations in the workshop. It requires the manager to co-ordinate resources and liaise with internal and external key contacts to ensure work is delivered on time and to a quality standard.

This is a hands-on role as our Batam factory is new, and the strategy is replicate as much as possible the UK operation, including manufacturing methods, material handling, machine operational setup and supporting processes. As the business grows, to support the Teignbridge Group Strategy by implementing engineering business procedures and initiatives to drive continuous improvement and enhance workshop profitability, customer service and resource utilisation.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
• Develop and manage of Marine Shafting, Stern Gear, Rudder fabrication production and the Propeller servicing /repair engineering functions to maximise resource availability, reliability, efficiency and performance.
• Leadership and development of the workshop teams to imbed a culture of continuous improvement, quality and high performance.
• Monitoring adherence to the budget for the various shop floor departments and individuals. Establish corrective action plans to meet targets.
• Execute sound strategies to efficiently achieve company objectives whilst delivering quality products on-time.
• Promote a culture of safety and ensure compliance with safety policies.
• Management of the Engineering Workshop team, including performance, discipline and attendance, and succession planning and training needs analysis.
• Develop sound employee relations through both informal and formal communication and consultation ensuring working practices keep pace with changing business requirements.

• Ensure process documentation and correct engineering procedures are used and that time records are correctly monitored.
• Manage inward goods, checking quantities, dispatching goods and receipting invoices
• Manage the delivery of work plans, challenged ways of working and tracked progress against plans promoting appropriate actions for any shortfalls.
• Accountable for the safety of engineering personnel and provision of a safe workplace, including the production of Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of work.
• Assist in compiling weekly and monthly production plans using in-house software.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS
• A good general education is essential and some understanding of mechanical or marine engineering would be an advantage, preferably Fitter Turner or Fitter Welder or equivalent.
• Has a strong knowledge of Manual and CNC machining and can demonstrate the ability to improve performance by the utilization of both people and machines.
• Quality and productivity focussed
• Ability to work with people at various levels from shop floor to senior management
• Has a minimum of 5 years’ experience in production scheduling and management
• Can look beyond the initial customer enquiry and identify other business opportunities
• Computer literacy with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word and Excel
• CAD drawing skills are an advantage but not essential
• Project management experience
• People management skills
• Must be driven & able to demonstrate Continuous Improvement with a proven history of achieving results.

• Problem solving and issue resolution skills.
